Throughout history, purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. Many believe this to be true because the rare occurrence of purple in nature made it one of the most expensive color dyes to create. The United States Military awards the Purple Heart to soldiers wounded in battle. In Thailand, purple is the color of mourning for widows.

I tend to gravitate toward a lot of purple in my garden (and shades thereof). That’s such a beautiful photo.

My friend uses purple on much of her social media branding and explained to me it’s significance for her.
I gravitate towards yellow/orange, not just in garden… T-shirt, socks etc.
Likely you may have lavender in the garden?

Beautiful pansy! As a spinner and dyer I can confirm the bit about natural purple dye being rare (and therefore expensive) is spot on, the main source historically was a marine mollusc known as murex snails ~ understandably, it’s not one I’ve tried at home. 😂 I wear a lot of purple, mostly because it’s a colour I love but also because I intend to grow old disgracefully à la Jenny Joseph https://www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poem/warning/ 😊💜

I’m thinking that the beauty of sharing our gardens/thoughts is such that ten people would read same article and each finds a focus that fits in with life experience!

Isn’t it fun? It’s one of my favourite poems and always makes me smile . . . and I’d like to think old age could be something to look forward to! I’m not sure I’m up to modelling anything yet ~ maybe I’ll put it on my old person to-do list? 🤣 However, you can use your imagination in this story: my purple journey took off 10 years ago this week at our daughter’s beautiful wedding in Wales where I decided typical mother-of-the-bride outfits just weren’t doing it for me (jade satin, lacy jackets, kitten heels . . . no thanks) so I bought a full-length PURPLE velvet steampunk / gothic coat trimmed with black lace and jewelled buttons instead. I did resist the temptation to wear a red hat with it, but at 46 I was just getting warmed up. It’s a truly beautiful coat and I think I’ll definitely be getting into full ‘Warning’ groove when I start wearing it to the supermarket . . . maybe still a bit young for that yet, but I promise to post a photo when the time comes. 😉
